Oil

Santa Fe artist, Pamela Frankel Fiedler says, “My first love will always be oils, that is, after my fleeting crush on acrylics, while pursuing a degree in Fine Art at San Francisco State University.” Using unassuming backgrounds and bold cropping, focus is deliberately placed upon rendering an anatomically precise figure. This precision, however, does not detract from her ability to empower her figures with emotion and sensuality. Moving beyond the mere depiction of homogenized air-brushed beauty, her work extols the natural beauty of aging that is garnered from life experience.

OIL PAINTING TECHNIQUE: Canvases are under-painted with a mid-value colored ground and a graphite drawing is applied to the dry surface as a reference. Adopted in college and refined over the years, she uses a dry-brush technique that makes her work unique and easily identifiable. Obvious attention is paid to detail with a keen eye to subtlety of skin tones and texture.
